Brooklyn Artist Kate Keery Opens Solo Exhibition “Current” at Nassau Avenue Gallery

Greenpoint, Brooklyn — Kate Keery, a Brooklyn-based representational painter known for luminous scenes drawn from coastal childhood memories, opened her solo exhibition “Current” on March 12, 2026, at Nassau Avenue Gallery, 123 Nassau Avenue in Greenpoint. The show, featuring her oil and acrylic paintings, runs through May 3, 2026.

Keery, born in 1998 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, grew up in a large family of seven children near the ocean. Her work captures intimate, everyday moments — often involving water, light, and human connection — inspired by personal photographs from her upbringing and daily life. She has described her paintings as evoking a sense of nostalgia and the “unnoticed magic” in ordinary experiences.

The exhibition coincides with Keery’s recent recognition as a “Contemporary Realism Artist to Watch” in a profile published by Realism Today on March 12, 2026. The article, which also appeared in Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, highlights her evolution toward looser, more energetic brushwork while maintaining emotional resonance in her figurative scenes.

Gallery visitors and the artist have noted strong attendance at the opening reception. Keery shared on Instagram that the night felt like “a big art party” and expressed gratitude for the turnout during the exhibition’s first week. One small oil painting titled “I’m Sure I’ll Feel Better In The Morning” (8 x 10 inches) has drawn particular attention for its themes of allowing emotions to pass like tides.

Keery initially studied environmental studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst before focusing on art. She spent time studying in Florence, Italy, moved to Brooklyn in 2022, and transitioned to painting full-time in 2023 after working as a gallery curator in Chelsea. In 2025, she completed an artist residency at ORTO Creative Hub in Fornelo, Portugal. Her work has previously been recognized as part of Saatchi Art’s Rising Stars in 2024 and featured in outlets including Vanity Fair UK and Northshore Magazine.

According to the artist’s website and CV, an upcoming solo exhibition is scheduled for June 2026 at The Gallery on Federal in Newburyport, her hometown.

Current” continues the themes that have defined Keery’s practice: light effects on water, candid human interactions, and a sense of freedom and play often associated with coastal settings. Reviewers and visitors have described her paintings as inviting viewers to slow down and reconnect with personal and shared memories.

The Nassau Avenue Gallery is open on weekends during the run of the show. For more information on the exhibition, available works, or giclée prints, visit keeryfineart.com or follow the artist on Instagram at @keeryfineart.

This is the first major solo gallery presentation for Keery in New York, marking a notable step in her young career within the contemporary realism movement.
