How Frank DeGods Transformed the NFT Landscape

In the volatile world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain innovation, few figures have left as indelible a mark as Frank DeGods, the pseudonymous founder known off-chain as Rohun Vora. With over 450,000 followers on X @frankdegods, DeGods remains a prominent voice in Web3, even after stepping down as CEO of the iconic DeGods project in May 2025.

Today, his candid, no-nonsense posts continue to spark debate and inspire builders, blending street-smart entrepreneurship with unfiltered insights into trading, lifestyle, and digital assets.

DeGods launched the DeGods collection in October 2021 on Solana, a series of 10,000 vibrant, god-like PFPs that quickly became a blue-chip benchmark. Under Vora’s leadership through DeLabs (later Dust Labs), the project achieved explosive growth and multi-million-dollar trading volumes.

Bold experimentation defined the early era. The team introduced the viral “Paper Hands Bitch Tax” (PHBT) — a 33.3% fee on early sellers — which captured widespread attention and embodied a philosophy of calculated risk and long-term holding. DeGods later migrated from Solana to Ethereum (2023), with the sister project y00ts moving to Polygon before also heading to Ethereum. The projects also experimented with Bitcoin Ordinals. These multichain moves expanded reach during turbulent market cycles.

Vora’s journey began far from crypto. A former UCLA film student and son of Indian immigrants, he dropped out to pursue entrepreneurship. He was accepted into Y Combinator, raised $1.3 million for an early startup, and later contributed to Main Street, a software firm that reached a notable valuation. His pivot to Web3 in 2021 fused storytelling with blockchain’s decentralized ethos, building not just collectibles but dedicated communities.

DeGods transcended pure hype. It emphasized utility, culture, and resilience. Holders gained access to events, governance experiments, and community-driven initiatives. The project became known for its aesthetic design and functional execution amid bear markets.

In May 2025, Vora announced his departure as CEO, passing leadership to pseudonymous figures @0x_chill and @pastagotsauce. “My chapter is closing, but the story isn’t over,” he stated. The transition occurred amid industry maturation; post-departure, a wallet associated with Vora was hacked, resulting in the loss of NFTs worth around $19,000, which he publicly addressed while denying any wrongdoing.

Industry observers credit DeGods with helping legitimize NFT storytelling and cross-chain experimentation. Vora’s transparency — doxxing himself as @rohunvora in 2022 — humanized the space and built loyalty through authenticity.

As Web3 evolves toward practical applications, DeGods’ legacy offers lessons in resilience and adaptability. Vora’s philosophy, symbolized by (33.3%) — representing “the willingness to fail & try again” — captures the builder mindset required for long-term success in crypto.

Today, with ongoing community activity and Vora sharing real-time insights on X, his role has shifted from operator to influential commentator and elder statesman. His recent posts exemplify his direct style: sharp trading commentary and encouragement for young builders to bet on themselves.

The broader implications are clear. In an industry often criticized for fleeting hype, DeGods’ focus on culture and community endurance stands as a model. Vora’s path — from film sets and UCLA to founding a major multichain NFT project — highlights Web3’s meritocratic potential: vision, execution, and adaptability can turn outsiders into icons.

As blockchain technology matures, figures like Frank DeGods remind us that true innovation lies in communities that endure. His next chapter — whether mentoring, new ventures, or continued commentary — will likely continue shaping Web3 narratives.
