In a significant boost for one of the world’s leading modern and contemporary art institutions, Chanel has announced a new five-year strategic partnership with the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The luxury house will provide crucial financial support as the museum undertakes its ambitious €460 million ($535 million) renovation.

The partnership builds on Chanel’s longstanding relationship with the Centre Pompidou, which began in 2019 through the CHANEL Culture Fund. Previous collaborations have included major acquisitions of contemporary Chinese art, significantly strengthening the museum’s holdings and promoting greater representation of women artists.

The iconic “inside-out” building, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, closed to the public in autumn 2025 and is scheduled to reopen in 2030. The extensive works include complete asbestos removal from the facades, structural reinforcements, enhanced fire safety, improved accessibility, energy optimization, and a full rehang of the collection.

Laurent Le Bon, President of the Centre Pompidou, described the project as “a true metamorphosis.” Chanel’s commitment ensures that research, educational programs, digital initiatives, and international partnerships—including satellites in Seoul, Brazil, and Brussels—continue uninterrupted during the closure.

Yana Peel, President of Arts, Culture & Heritage at Chanel, emphasized the alignment with the house’s century-long tradition of arts patronage. “The five-year commitment will strengthen Centre Pompidou’s work across access, scholarship, and the preservation of public knowledge, contributing to its long-term stewardship of cultural memory,” she stated.

This latest agreement highlights the increasing role of private patronage in sustaining major public cultural institutions amid budget constraints. Observers view it as a model of strategic collaboration between luxury brands and museums, preserving shared heritage while fostering innovation.

The partnership reinforces Paris’s position as a global arts capital. By bridging fashion, creativity, and public access, Chanel and the Centre Pompidou demonstrate a forward-thinking approach that promises lasting cultural impact for future generations.
