Brock Lesnar Reveals His Iconic Chest Sword Tattoo Was a Blackout Drunken Mistake
WWE and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has finally shared the unfiltered truth behind one of combat sports’ most recognizable pieces of body art: the massive sword tattoo running down his chest.

Appearing on the popular Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, the 48-year-old Beast Incarnate admitted the elaborate ink was never a deliberate design choice but the hazy result of a wild night in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“I got that tattoo, I was sh*t-faced drunk in Scottsdale,” Lesnar recounted with a laugh. “I was training for the NFL, had just gotten in a motorcycle accident, and I was just kicked down hard. There was a tattoo shop across the street from the biker bar — and that’s not a good place to have a tattoo shop.”
Lesnar said he woke up the next morning with no memory of the session. “I didn’t even know I got the damn thing. I wake up and I’m like, ‘What in the f**k is this thing?’ Yeah, let’s put a big-ass ugly sword on my chest.”
He added that the impulsive decision involved “half a gallon of vodka and maybe a few Vicodin,” with “no planning whatsoever.”
While the tattoo’s origin story is chaotic, Lesnar previously revealed in his 2011 autobiography Death Clutch that the sword carries deeper personal meaning. During a low point involving legal battles with WWE, he felt as though life itself held “a sword right up against my throat.” The ink served as a permanent reminder of that struggle and a source of motivation.
The revelation has quickly gone viral among wrestling and MMA fans, many of whom long speculated about the tattoo’s intimidating placement and design. Lesnar’s candid admission highlights how even the most fearsome figures in sports can have tattoos born from impulse rather than intention.
In the tightly knit tattoo community, the story also serves as a cautionary tale about decisions made under the influence — a reminder that some of the most permanent marks begin as fleeting moments of chaos.
