In the heart of Milan, where historic architecture meets cutting-edge innovation, The New Atlas of Digital Art returns to the MEET Digital Culture Center for its seventh edition. Titled Culture Dome, the event on June 23 and 24, 2026, promises to redefine how we experience art in an era where technology and culture converge like never before.

Organized in collaboration with the National Museum of Digital Art (MNAD) and supported by the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan, The New Atlas of Digital Art has established itself as a premier international platform for exploring the evolving languages of digital creativity. Under the visionary leadership of MEET founder and president Maria Grazia Mattei, the event draws artists, curators, technologists, and cultural thinkers from around the globe to interrogate the shifting boundaries between physical and virtual realms.

This edition centers on immersivity not merely as a technological tool but as a profound cultural paradigm. The “Dome” metaphor extends beyond physical architecture to encompass an entire ecosystem—one that reshapes spaces, narratives, participation, and even economic models in the creative industries. As the program describes, immersivity today invites us to rethink cultural institutions as open, participatory environments where the body becomes an active interface rather than a passive observer. Visitors move, perceive, and connect through sensory, cognitive, and emotional dimensions that blur the lines between observer and participant.

On the ground floor, the MEET Village emerges as a dynamic laboratory of VR, MR, and XR experiences. This living atlas showcases experimental works where artificial intelligence, virtual environments, and interactive installations intertwine, offering visitors hands-on encounters that push the frontiers of digital expression. Collaborators like Metagate and CoMeta help transform the space into a playground of innovation, where data, imagery, and human interaction dissolve traditional barriers between the tangible and the intangible.

Upstairs, the exhibition spaces host compelling installations. Synthetic Creatures by pioneering digital artist Rebecca Allen presents a retrospective spanning half a century of research into the relationship between body and technology. From rudimentary digital lines on punch cards to sophisticated simulations and virtual reality works, Allen’s practice traces how interactivity has empowered viewers to become co-creators, fundamentally altering notions of presence and virtuality. The exhibition, which opened in May 2026 and runs through September, perfectly complements the Atlas program.

Complementing this is Symbiotic Imaginaries, a showcase from the European Studiotopia project featuring artist-scientist collaborations that address environmental, social, and technological challenges through shared interdisciplinary research. These works highlight the growing importance of symbiotic thinking in the digital age.

The two-day program features rich discussions on museums in the digital age, international immersive ecosystems, and the dramaturgy of telepresence. Highlights include a live set by Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa and international speakers from institutions like the Barbican Immersive, XN Québec, and KIKK Festival. All events are free with registration, making this a truly accessible celebration of digital culture.

The New Atlas of Digital Art continues to bridge pioneering artistic research with forward-looking cultural policy. In an age of rapid technological change, events like this remind us that digital art is not just about new tools but about reimagining human connection, creativity, and presence itself. Mattei and her team have once again created a space where Milan positions itself at the forefront of global digital culture conversations.

As immersivity becomes the defining cultural shift of our time, Culture Dome offers both inspiration and practical insights for artists, institutions, and audiences navigating this transformation.
